Assisted Living moving into the cities
In New York City, the push is on to create housing options for what will be nearly 2 million residents over 60 in the year 2040. Such development has traditionally been out in the suburbs, but when you have more than 10,000 baby-boomers during 65 each day, the demand will allow for these projects to take hold where real estate prices are higher.
By 2040, the city’s population of residents ages 60 and older is expected to reach 1.86 million—up 22% from 2013—and make up more than 20% of the population, according to projections from the New York City Department for the Aging.
