Amazon Alexa’s New Calling and Messaging Skill a Nail in the Landline Coffin

Traditional landline telephone service has been going the way of the Dodo bird as chord cutters look to slash communication costs and rely increasingly on their smartphones. With the latest software update, one can call or message any contact that has Amazon’s free Alexa app on their phone, an Echo or Echo Dot provided they have enabled Alexa calling and messaging.

For free…. well not really free as you need to have a WiFi or cellular connection… but it’s another thorn in the side of traditional landline service… not good for what many are considering legacy business at Verizon (VZ), AT&T (T) and other regional telephone service and cable companies. So much for the triple-play in the world of Disruptive Technologies and the Connected Society

All of that capitalizes on my near 20 years in the investment industry, nearly all of it breaking down industries and recommending stocks. In my travels, I've covered cyclicals, tech and more, which gives me a different vantage point, one that uses not only an ecosystem or food chain perspective, but one that also examines demographics, economics, psychographics and more when formulating my investment views. The question I most often get is "Are you related to…."
