Holy cow! The average internet user spends 100 days per year online

We inherently know that we as people are spending more time online shopping, streaming, communicating and the like. So much so that Apple and others have built tools to tell us as individuals how much time we are spending chewing through data. A new study puts some context and perspective around what that looks like for the average consumer and it’s a big, big number. Over the course of a year, the average consumer spends more than 100 days online. 100 days out of 365.25 a year.

That’s mindboggling! But it’s also just the average, meaning it’s bound to move higher as people in the emerging markets increasingly move past 3G mobile technologies and developed ones see the deployment of 5G networks. In other words, we see more inroads ahead for our Digital Lifestyle investing theme as new(er) networks associated with our Digital Infrastructure one are lit.

The latest Digital 2019 report shows we’re spending on average 6 hours and 42 minutes online each day. Half of that is spent on mobile devices.

That figure sounds like a lot, but it’s absolutely astronomical when spread across an entire year. It equates to more than 100 days of online time every year for every Internet user. That’s more than 27 percent of every year.

That 6h 42 minutes is the world average, with the USA slightly below it at 6h 31m. The most Internet-addicted nation is the Philippines, at 10h 02m, while the least is Japan at 3h 45m.
