Malvertising Rises 132% in 2016 | Digital Marketing Magazine

2016 saw a dramatic rise in the number of online adverts containing malware, according to digital threat management company, RiskIQ. In total, there was a 132.6% rise in ‘malvertising’ compared with 2015. Delivered through ad networks such as Google and Facebook, threat actors use malvertising to propagate malware, ransomware, and scams (disingenuous advertising), as well as redirect victims to phishing pages and pages hosting exploit kits.

While Facebook and Google lead the way in our Connected Society and Asset-Lite business model investment themes, they also happen to be enabling the need for a third theme — Safety & Security. As the article above points out, these two players are swamps for malware and other mischievous schemes.
